W.R. Grace to Close Chemical Facility

W.R. Grace, a chemical manufacturer, plans to close its Albany, OR, plant at the end of the year, laying off 95 workers.

The Maryland-based company notified Oregon officials of the pending closure in a letter but didn’t give any explanation for the shutdown. It said the layoffs are permanent and will continue through June.

The Albany factory makes specialized chemicals used in medicines, auto belts and hoses, and plastic food wraps, according to the company website.

The site is also part of W.R. Grace’s fine chemicals business, which includes the production of pharmaceutical ingredients and the development of pharmaceutical alternatives and supplements.

The company acquired the business along with two manufacturing facilities in Tyrone, PA and South Haven, MI from Albermarle in 2021 for $570 million.
